This course is intended to help students gain a beginning-level competency of communicating in Valley Zapotec, specifically Dizhsa (San Lucas Quiaviní Zapotec), an Indigenous language spoken in what is now Oaxaca, Mexico. The course will include instruction on grammar, conversational practice, as well as historical and modern cultural context of Zapotec language and life in Oaxaca and the diaspora. [Note this class does not satisfy the language requirement as it is only 0.5 units.]
