Materials and Techniques: Etching is an intermediate course in which students study intaglio techniques, processes, and concepts, as well as develop personal composition and visual expression through hands-on experiences. This course covers plate preparation, drypoint, line etching, aquatint, soft-ground, surface roll, Chin-collè, color etching techniques, registration, printing, and editioning. It is expected that students will acquire proficiency in technical skills. Creative and experimental approaches are encouraged. A strong body of work following a specific theme is required. Individual discussions and group critiques are held periodically.
